From Robert Ripley’s famous Ripley’s Believe it or Not! television show the odditorium here in St. Augustine is the original. The building that houses Ripley’s collection of strange and unique oddities was built in 1887 and is a beautiful piece of architecture itself. Ripley visited this building known as castle Warden several times and tried to purchase it but was unable to do so before he died in 1949. In 1950, the Ripley estate purchased the building, and soon after made the first and original permanent Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium. There are now 32 odditoriums around the world and each one has unique items.

The museum houses three stories of odd and unusual exhibits collected from around the world. Ripley claimed to have visited 201 countries on his journey to find odd and unusual things. Among those located here at this exhibit are shrunken heads, unusual artwork made in strange ways, odd animals some born with 2 heads, the space station built with matchsticks, life sized statues of odd people like Robert Wadlow who stood close to 9 feet tall, and numerous others oddities. The museum has some really entertaining things to see in it. If you remember the show this place will take you back in time and even if you do not there is plenty here to see and keep you occupied for a few hours. There is a total of 14 themed galleries to see here. It also has a great gift shop upon finishing the viewing of the museum.
