The Raintree Restaurant, St. Augustine

This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and is beautifully decorated. However it is really a mixed bag for us. The start was great but the finish was not so strong with our entrees. We each had a cup of Lobster & Sweet Pepper Bisque which was delightful and full of flavor. One of the best soups I have ever tasted. But things went a little downhill from there.

l As a fan of chef Gordon Ramsey’s cooking (not his temperament) I had always wanted to try a beef wellington. The fact that it was on the menu here is what made us choose this restaurant. However, it was not prepared the traditional way I know a beef wellington to be prepared. There was no brown sauce to go over the wellington which was replaced by a white sauce that did not have a lot of flavor. Also gone was the chopped mushrooms under the pastry and no mustard either. The results of this was just a piece of steak inside a pastry.

Quennie had the Jumbo Shrimp & Lobster Pasta which had a hefty 37$ price tag on it. It was tossed in a creamy Champagne Butter Sauce with Pasta. The flavors were alright but I have had better from chain restaurant at half the price.
